Hansel and Gretel
in Japan

The witch

Stepmother constantly arguing with the father.

Hansel overhears his stepmother’s plan to abandon them and gathers breadcrumbs, which he drops along the path.

Birds eat the breadcrumbs, leaving the children lost in the forest.

A kind old woman invites them inside the house made of candy and bread.

The woman locks Hansel in a cage to fatten him up, she is actually a wicked witch who eats children.

The witch makes Gretel do chores.

One day, the witch orders Gretel to check the oven, but Gretel outsmarts her and pushes the witch inside, burning her to death.

Gretel frees Hansel!

They return home and discover their stepmother has died. Their father, now overjoyed to see them, welcomes them back, and they live happily ever after with their newfound riches.
